Naeto C Interview
You studied biology at university, so how did the whole music thing come about?
I was always into music but while I was at my first University, SUNY Oldwestbury, I met a friend Uzi (Ikechukwu’s younger brother) who was really into rapping becoming a hip-hop artist, I definitely rubbed off him cause I was also into Hip-Hop but not that seriously…Over the years I got more into it while I was in school…
Being where you are (music & achievement wise) must be so amazing, what have been you “pinch” yourself moments?
Havent really had those yet, but em, I just put out my debut album “You Know my P”, which was definitely a big accomplishment for me. That’s the closest to a pinch moment…
You’re under Storm Records, what is it like in the studio with all the other artists like Sasha?
Its really cool, my partner and I, TY Mix own a production company called Cerious Music and we produce a lot of records for Sasha, Ikechukwu, Dare & Tuface, Jazzman, Shank, GT, myself and Wande coal…its definitely fun to work with the quality talent out here both as an artist and as a producer.
You’re easily the best lyricist Nigeria’s got right now, but who do you see as competition?
No one.
So Naeto C, are you single? (silence)
Is Marriage on the cards anytime soon? (silence...)
Everyone is crazy about Naeto C at the moment; do you have groupies and all that?
Every popular person has “groupies” for one reason or the other…
What is the craziest or weirdest thing a groupie or fan has ever done or given you?
Thrown a condom at me while I was performing on stage
How did “Naeto” the name come about?
That’s my real name, short for Naetochukwu
In your videos, you look quite good, do you get to wear your own clothes or are you styled by a stylist?
Most of the time I do my own styling, other times I enlist friends, some are fashion designers like The Okunoren Twins…
What are your favourite designers?
Locally? I would say Okunoren Twins
Are there any rumours you want to put to rest right now?
Are you actually brothers with Ikechukwu?
Nope, he’s a close friend, brother from another…
It must be fun doing something you love with someone so close to you, what was it like shooting the video for “Kini big deal” with him?
The shoot was fun, we had a blast with the girls and the technical crew, it was like a party to be honest, mad fun….
Are there any artist you want to work with in the future?
I’ll leave that as a surprise for the people…
Where do you see yourself and your music in the next couple of years?
Naeto C as a successfully established brand in Nigeria through consistency, constantly putting out good music for the people…
